Comparison: 1920's vs. Progressive/ wwi
Change and Continuity: During the progressive era there was one main issue that was ignored and that was the plight of African Americans in the United States. They faced all types of racism including; segregation in public places, lynching, no healthcare, no education, housing, or a role in politics. Although they did counter these injustices enforced by the white man. It wasn't quite a major success tell the 1920's. During this period of time blacks were a lot more outgoing with the fact that they had some rights and worked independently. They were a lot more determined and not afraid to back down.

Thinking like a historian & change and COntinuity
Through Their Eyes:
Blacks during the time viewed the world and especially the United States as unequal. Although African Americans were making gains in freedom and rights during the 1920's, they hadn't completely received the same treatment and rights as the white man. They knew that there were some white people that were for black rights although they also knew that the other half of the white people in America were not.
This belief of the blacks had numerous effects on their decisions and actions during the time period. It caused them to become self-determined and willing to fight for their rights. The only really skills or values that they needed to succeed was self-motivation and not afraid to face defeat.
Connection to Today: Since the 1920's, complete equality has been accomplished for African Americans in the United States. Although still today, African Americans do face racism and some mistreatment in society. This was seen in the 1920's too, but back then they were treated a lot worse than today.
